McMichael Canadian Art Collection En Plein Air Competition

I am honoured to join 80 other plein air artists from Saturday, August 28 to Sunday, September 26 in McMichael’s En Plein Air Competition. Artists will celebrate the legacy of the Humber River by responding to the natural and cultural heritage through art in two distinct mediums: canvas/panel and/or paper. Successful applicants for the 2021 En Plein Air Competition will be able to return to the grounds over the course of a month to capture and share their unique vision of the Humber River Valley, village of Kleinberg and McMichael’s grounds. The final group of 15 shortlisted artists will be selected to display their works in-gallery as well as online. The in-gallery and online exhibitions will be on view from October 30, 2021 to April 3, 2022 and will feature short artist statements.

Colour my World: Pastels for the Beginner Artist II Level 1-2 – Fall 2021

Explore the potential of pastels to portray the colours and light of different seasons. By experimenting with different colour schemes and underpaintings and exploring layering of colours, we will discover how to create dramatic nocturnal paintings as well as mood and depth in fall and winter scenes. We will also build on pastel techniques using still life. Although this course is meant to build on skills developed in Colour My World part one, artists new to pastel are also welcome and encouraged to discover the potential of this wonderful medium. The instructor will provide photographic references, but students are encouraged to work from their own more meaningful landscape photographs. Class demonstrations and individual instruction provided throughout in a fun, supportive environment.

8 weeks in person starting Thursdays October 7 – November 25, 2021, 1pm to 4pm

Course S2-124: Fee: $250   Members: $220 Oakville Art Society, 560 Bronte Road. Oakville, Ontario, L6L 6S1

Burlington Artscape “A Leaf for Life”

Happy to donate my “Leaf For Life” painted aluminum leaf, “Summer Fun at Spencer Smith Park” for the fundraising initiative in support of Joseph Brant Hospital.

Art will be sold to businesses and residents in Burlington for $750, with all proceeds going directly to Joseph Brant Hospital.

There will be a public display of the work of the 50 chosen artists on August 8, 15, 22 on the property of Grace United Church, 2111 Walkers Line, Burlington at 10 to 4pm..

My painting “Summer Fun at Spencer Smith Park” portrays the fun that children and their parents were having on a hot summer day.  Spencer Smith Park’s waterfront playground is a welcome respite, especially after a year of the restrictions of Covid.  The children are having fun: playing and socializing outdoors, enjoying the playground equipment, riding their bikes and scooters and meeting new people, including those who are disabled.  The two Moms enjoy the park as a safe outing for their young children as well as a way for much needed conversation.
