Biography

Cathy’s art is inspired by her love of nature and travel. Her extensive travels have motivated her to portray the beauty of the Canadian landscape. Combining outdoor sketching and painting with time in the studio, her colourful landscapes capture the changing light of four seasons. She aims to not only encourage environmental stewardship but also to provide comfort and appreciation to local communities that beauty is present in our own backyard.

She is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art Drawing and Painting program (A.O.C.A) and BFA. She is also a graduate of University of Toronto (BEd) where she received the Percy Tacon Award and the University of Ottawa (BA in English). She continues to seek inspiration, guidance and teachings under artists such as Tara Will, Clarence Porter, Jessica Masters, her fellow Monday plein air painters and Burlington Fine Art Association artists. Through virtual conferences and online art communities, she has also learned from pastel and plein air painters around the world. Cathy is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and a Signature Member of Pastel Artists of Canada.

Her pastel, acrylic and oil paintings are also shaped by her experience teaching high school art and photography for three decades. Teaching photography has made it second nature for her to focus on narrative and the patterns and moods of light and colour.

She continues to teach students of all ages in Canada and internationally and was artist in residence at Crawford Lake Conservation Area. Currently, she is chairing the committee of the Burlington Fine Art’s annual juried show, The Artist’s Mark. She has also volunteered on the BFAA Fireside Lounge Selection committee for solo shows and as Fireside Lounge Coordinator where she organized, coordinated and mounted group art shows at Fireside Lounge at the Art Gallery of Burlington. She is past President of Arts Burlington where she received the Leadership of the Year Award in 2017.

Cathy exhibits her work in juried, group and solo shows throughout South Western Ontario as well as local and national online exhibitions. Please see here for a detailed list of the exhibitions.

Cathy’s award winning paintings have found homes in Canada, the United States and Australia.
